April 24, 2005
Stateline Speedway in Lawsonville, NC hosted the inaugural event of the
Appalachain UAS and the North Carolina UAS last night under threatning
skies.
With a very good turnout of 11 karts and drivers representing 3 states
the event was deemed a sucess.
The field consisting of nine 2-strokes and two open 4-strokes ran 2
heats which were won by Gil "Hardrock" Atkinson from the NCUAS and
Leslie "Bullet" Blankenship from the AUAS. Atkinson's Sudam powered
kart and Blankenship's twins proved to be the class of the field as
they started from the front row of the main event and proceeded to
dominate the 20 lapper. Atkinson lead the early part of the event
before being caught on a restart by Blankenship with what proved to be
the winning pass. Atkinson made a valiant effort to retake the lead but
Blankenship was not to be outdone. Joe Torreyson ran a strong third,
followed by Susan Blankenship and Scott Mooney. Jeff Davis was the
highest finishing 4-stroke kart in 6th position after running as high
as fourth in the event.
The next event for the AUAS series will be on May 7th at Tyler Mountain
Speedway in Crosslanes, WV.
The next event for the NCUAS series will be on June 4th at the
Earlybird Kart Club in Lincolnton, NC.

Rusty Sampsel was the 2001 Unlimited All-Stars Champion. He ran karts for a couple more years after that and then retired from kart racing. Shortly after that he moved to Michigan to take a job at General Motors. He stumbled across this web site and e-mailed me (Mark Bergfelt). Here's a picture of the ride he has now. In the picture, to the left of Rusty is his father who has been suffering some serious health problems lately. This was a happier moment after a big win. Rusty is giving some serious thought to attending the 2006 W. PA Kart Racers Reunion Party scheduled for November 12.

An eleventh UAS Region?
At this time last year there were four Unlimited All-Stars regions; Pennsylvania, Florida, Tri-State and Arizona. We thought we were doing pretty well at that level. That was then, and this is now, and now there are 10 regions. Very likely there will soon be an eleventh region added. This one is in the Eastern part of the country in an area that is presently not represented. Stay tuned for the official announcement and schedule.

I just returned from Kart Expo. It was a very worthwhile trip for me. I came across a new TAG engine that looks like it would be a great engine to turn into an Unlimited. I talked with the gentleman, from Australia, who designed it. I told him what I had in mind and he even discussed a few porting alterations that I could do. The best news is that the entire package retails for just over $1,800. It has a cast iron sleeve, and comes complete with battery, carb, pipe (that will be changed out) clutch (that's going to be changed out in the version I wan to put together), starter as in onboard electric start, water pump, switches,radiator...it's a bargain. It will need a few modifications to be competitive, but not that much. I am looking for one accomplished, or semi- accomplished driver who would like to team up to develop this engine. I don't have the cash to buy the hardware, but I'll do the labor for free on one engine if any one is adventurous enough to try. Call Mark Bergfelt (724) 847-3677 or email.

A 10th region is being formed. I just received this private message and I am passing it on. The circuit that Brent is putting together will be scheduled so that drivers in the Tri-State Circuit and The Appalachian Circuit can attend with minimal conflicts.

February 14, 2005 Happy Valentine's Day
Don't forget guys, "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."
I just got this e-mail I stand corrected.

So now everyone knows the real deal. Those of you from Kentucky might want to consider the Southern Ohio UAS.
February 13, 2005
Exciting things are happening in the Unlimited
All-Stars. The class is expanding rapidly at dirt tracks across
the USA. The biggest news is the addition of the UAS class to the
Burris National Speedway Series. In addition to the original
Pennsylvania Circuit, and the well established Florida Circuit, the
Arizona Unlimited All-Stars and the Tri-State Unlimited All-Stars were
added in 2004. The newest series and circuits for 2005 are, in no
particular order; the Southern Ohio
Unlimited All-Stars Series at Riverside Kartway, the Appalachian Unlimited All-Stars
based in West Virginia but will also host events in West Virginia,
Virginia, North Carolina and possibly Kentucky, Mid-West Unlimited All-Stars, based
in Illinois, hosting races in Illinois, Indiana and Missouri, and the Lousiana Unlimited All-Stars.
Additionally, tracks are adopting the UAS rules across the country for
their open class. It may not be long until drivers in this
exciting and "overpowered" class can compete on any track, any time,
just like the box stock Briggs guys can. Others series are being
developed as well but it is still too early to release that information.
If you know of any other Unlimited All-Stars news that should be
included here, please e-mail the information, including pictures to; mark@bergfeltracing.com
Series/Circuit administrators, please e-mail the results of your races
so that they can be included and all of the results, from tracks across
the country, can be examined all in one place.
If you know of a track that is going to use the UAS rules please let us
know so that we can include that information here.

All-Stars. This is his fourth Unlimited All-Stars Regional
Championship.
The defending champion of the Tri-State Unlimited All-Stars is
Mike Grady .
February 1, 2005 National Kart News published an article about the First Annual Western Pennsylvania Kart Racers Reunion 2004. It was at that event where the Pennsylvania Unlimited All-Stars received their awards. The article was on pages 65 and 66 of the February 2005 issue.
February 5, 2005 Here's what Tri-State Champion Mike Grady had to say about the awards from the Tri-State UAS. This is a quote from 4-Cycle.com

Tri State Awards Banquet
I wanted everyone to know about the awards banquet. It was
"pretty nice"....LOL
Here is what I received. I won a Leather Racing Jacket, a 4' tall throphy, a set of HT3s, a set of Douglas Q+ wheels, a new Tomar 3 disc clutch, a couple of G-Man carb covers, a G-Man puke tank for a 4-cycle, and a Douglas can cover....you know for cold drinks. They gave out extra prizes by pulling ticket numbers. I won a Bully clutch and another set of Douglas Q+ wheels. These guys really have some AWESOME rewards for running their series. At the end of the night, they gave ten $100 bills out to people in the top three of the classes by pulling 10 names. A 2-cycle guy, David Waddell won of the the $100 prizes. Tri State Series, You certainly know how to treat your racers right! It was an honor to get to run with you this year. Thanks! Mike Grady |
